It's funny how things take off sometimes, no pun intended, I'm not the first person to make hot air balloon mobiles and won't be the last.
Many people send a few photos of their colour scheme / room and leave the designing and the sewing to me. Each step is communicated and the overall design has to be approved before I start sewing, once the final design is chosen an accurate costing will be worked out and a deposit of 50% required. It all started when a friend made one and sold a few on her market stall, I loved the concept and asked her to make one for my son, but in my eagerness to hang it in his bedroom I waited and waited and got so impatient that I bought a pattern on-line and made him seven!!! when a friend saw the photo on my phone she asked if I could make her one too and so the business slowly grew to new heights. Every time I go to the Post Office I get accosted by someone asking where I got it from, and when I tell them that I hand make them they soon put in an order. Clusters of pre-orders come via word of mouth advertising and my postage map has tiny groups of dots all over it as friends recommend to friends, Melbourne being my favourite clients.
This is fantastic news for me, but trying to sew like the wind to keep up with orders when you have a young baby yourself is a juggling act, LOL! this picture above is MKII of a version that I recently made for a couple who are expecting a baby, they wanted the colours to match their nursery and a homemade quilt, I think they turned out really well, I only wish I'd thought of the colour scheme myself ;) they were thrilled with the end result and each and every hot air balloon mobile I hand make is totally unique from the next and I never repeat any designs exactly.
NOTE: The R2D2 toy was submitted to me by the client for the purpose of the custom design, I do not supply toys with my balloon mobiles as it goes against my 100% handmade standards
